asthma is prevalent during childhood or adolescence whereas COPD is mainly observed in chain smokers. and asthma symptoms include breathlessness, cough, chest congestion and frequent wheezing whereas COPD does not show such indications but can be determined by respiratory tract infections.

Asthma is a reaction to things your allergic to, causing effects like narrowing of the airways or too much mucus in the airways. There isn't usually any underlying lung damage. COPD - Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, is a name for certain conditions, Emphysema, Chronic Bronchitis, that result from actual damage to the lungs. Asthma, if untreated or or long-lasting, can lead to chronic bronchitis, which is COPD.
