The Lovely Bones was one of my favorite books when I was younger. Not for the very young since it has a sexual scene.

Lord of the Rings series, if your patient. the first 100 pages of the fellowship are skippable if you cant take the slowpaced-ness of it

Percy Jackson series, if you are a good reader you might be able to see a movie in your find, as well.

Flowers in the attic, it's a little creepy cause you know,incest, and creepy grandma who locks em in the attic, but great book, and after that you can read the next book pedals on the wind. :)
