You will have a lapse in coverage by then, and most standard insurance companies will not accept your policy with a lapse. It also increases your premium drastically if you have a lapse as well. You will need to take care of this before the 28th when it expires.

Depends on how long you are going to be out of the country and where your car is going to be while you are gone. If you are going to be gone for few months and your car is going to sit, you can store it in a garage and turn your tag in. But you will have to reregister your car when you get back. If you are just going for a short time, renew your insurance before you go. I don't know what state you live in, but in my state you can lose your license if you let your insurance lapse. Plus renewing it will cost more.

You can but then when you try to renew it it will probably cost more.

NO....never let coverage lapse. Not only is that risky and illegal, but they will charge you extra to reinstate your policy.

Just switch your policy to car storage you will pay a lot less

No. Not a good idea. Extend your coverage before you leave.
