today is my birthday so I was thinking and wondering why we celebrate birthdays for a whole day and why people make a big deal about it. I mean everyone was born someday so why do we take the time to celebrate everyone's birthday?

In my family, we can easily celebrate a birthday for a whole week! Each grandparent used to get a day. We had our own family day, and we often had a party for their friends. In our case we celebrate because we love.

I can't say that I celebrate ALL DAY but we usually have a nice meal and perhaps an outing. But you're missing the point. Birthdays represent an opportunity to have fun. Modesty Blaise -- perhaps the deadliest heroine in the history of fiction -- didn't know when her birthday was so she celebrated it twice a year. Why? Because you should never miss the opportunity for a celebration.
