That's probably debatable between the Egyptians and other major empires of the time, although the Egyptians did have a game that we still don't know the rules of.

Hmmm, good question. I saw something on the History Channel about a Chinese board game called "Go", not sure if it's THEE oldest, but it's gotta be one of the oldest. (Edit): I looked it up and it seems that the oldest known board game is something called "Senet", and yes it's from Egypt.
