There's no way you are running at 35-40 mph. Sorry to burst your bubble. If you are running, for 30 minutes a day, and eating healthy, yes you can lose weight.

It's 3.5 and 4.0, 40 mph only if you're a horse

Sure running will help you burn calories which makes you lose weight. You can do than just running to lose weight, improve your diet and stay away from fast and fatty foods. If you're concerned about your stomach, definitely stay away from unhealthy foods. Do crunches, sit-ups, push-ups and lift weights and overall your body will look better. For more information:http://livehealthy.chron.com/running-treadmill-lose-belly-fat-1360.html

No. You have two other components just as important: what you eat and the amount of rest (sleep) you get. Food: get rid of sugars of all kind - even if they say "zero calories" - its a trick for the less informed - sugars form serum (blood) glucose used to change ADP to ATP ( the energy molecule) but too much glucose sends a signal to your pancreas to secrete insulin - which neutralizes the excess glucose - but to shut down the insulin (this is the easy explanation version), cortisol is secreted to neutralize the insulin - and cortisol has a nasty effect of holding and storing glucose in lipid cells (fat cells), the process is a hold over from evolution, when we needed to store fat - because tomorrow we may have a bad hunt for fresh game) - everywhere - even right in your muscles. Cortisol also surges when you are stressed out - which exercise can help stop. If you eat clean: fat-free whey protein (smoothies), no fructose, no sodas, no candy, and up your protein - cottage cheese, non-fried fish, eggplant, (etc.) as well as "slow burning carbs - like veggies - you'll lean out and carve out - be persistent - don't miss workouts and consistent eating schedules - don't eat after 9 PM - and drink 8-10 glasses of water a day.
